How to Get a More Attractive Looking Back

A strong, toned back will not only serve you well, it looks amazing. With so many fabulous styles that reveal your back, you need to keep it toned, right?

A great way to make your back look better begins with light dumb bells. Even a three-pound weight will be effective. Start in a push up position as shown, holding the weights. Then all you do is pull one arm up in a rowing position — the key is to use the muscles of your middle back. To do this, focus your attention on squeezing your back (latissimus dorsi) muscle and not your arm muscles (biceps or triceps).  One trick that helps you “feel” how to do this is to imagine you are squeezing your shoulder blades together.

Also tighten your core (abdominals), to really get the most out of this exercise.

Do each arm slowly; count “1-1000, 2-1000,…” up to at least 5 on both the way up, and the way down. You will work different muscles this way, and maintaining control throughout the entire movement is much more effective.

The added twist:  do a push up after each sequence. Repeat 10 times.

When this becomes easy, increase your count to 10, and do 2 push ups between each sequence. Repeat as many times as you can.
